Why this cue is discounted
The point veneers on this cue are specified as vibrant red and black - designed to create sharp contrast against the grey-stained maple forearm. Look at the actual cue photos: the cue we received from the factory shows veneers that are a muddy brownish-red and a washed-out light grey. The contrast and visual identity that define this design are simply not there.
The cue plays correctly. Meucci considers this acceptable. We do not, so we are discounting it and showing exactly what you would be buying.
About This Cue
The Meucci SWBB-1 is part of the Skyler Woodward Bar Box Series, co-designed by Bob Meucci and professional player Skyler Woodward. It was built for players who want a serious playing cue suited to bar box conditions - shorter tables, tighter racks, and the need for precise control over deflection.
For fifty years, Meucci built its name on color. Bob Meucci's cues were known for being visually striking sticks in the room - deep stains, vivid veneers, and contrast that read clearly from across a pool hall. The SWBB-1 was designed in that tradition: grey stained forearm, warm antique points, sharp red and black veneer lines for definition. The photos show the cue we received from the factory.
Structurally, this cue is correct. The PRO Shaft plays well, the Everlock weight system works, and the joint is solid. The only issue is cosmetic - and entirely the manufacturer's responsibility to own.
The Full Story
After Bob Meucci retired in October 2022 and new ownership took over Meucci Cues, LLC, Budget Billiards began receiving product that differed materially from advertised stock photos and manufacturer descriptions. This SWBB-1 is a clear example: the red veneers arrived as a muddy brownish-red, and the black veneers arrived as a washed-out light grey. The contrast that makes this cue's design work is simply absent.
We contacted the manufacturer and requested return or exchange authorization. Their response:
"The aesthetic appeal of the cue is not covered by our manufacturer warranty, [...] and each dealer takes on the responsibility of moving the SKUs they purchase from us. Aesthetic variations do not impact the usability of the product."
- Seth & Jeremy, Owners of Meucci Cues, LLC
When a customer purchases a cue based on photos and a written description specifying vivid red and black veneers, and receives a cue with muddy brownish-red and grey veneers, that is not an "aesthetic variation" - it is a failure to deliver what was advertised. Rather than sell this cue at full price and hope nobody notices, we are marking it down and being transparent about exactly what you are buying.
Important: Meucci's warranty has changed under new ownership
Meucci's original warranty covered manufacturing defects and material flaws for one year. Under current ownership, that warranty has been rewritten to cover only structural defects that affect the performance of the cue. Cosmetic defects, color inconsistencies, and warpage are explicitly excluded.
This means the color inconsistency on this cue - and on others like it - would not be covered even if you purchased it brand new at full retail price from any authorized dealer. You would own the problem the moment you opened the box.
